The 4 hobbies that everyone needs!!

It is amazing the amount of info that circulates on social media today. No matter what platform you used, it seems that social media has given an “expert” opinion to pretty much everyone about everything. Of course, it does not take much to figure out that most of the information on social media is just that, people’s opinions. Some are based with facts and some are accurate, but most are just people rambling about a topic, or a person, etc.

One of the articles I have seen circulating on social media these days is one about hobbies. Distraction it claimed, is something we all need. Of course, there is some truth to that, but distraction also has a cost. Distraction can be beneficial for us as human. After all, we cannot be all about work and responsibilities all the time. Watching a movie, or a series, or going out to eat with loved ones is an integral part of healthy living.

4 hobbies’ categories for you to consider

I wanted to take a moment to talk about the hobbies I have seen on some of the social media posts and to add what I think is missing on most of them. What is missing, I believe, is the most important part of a holistic approach to life and health.

In this article, we at Saving For Hope wanted to layout 4 key components of a healthy lifestyle that will save you a ton of money!! Seriously, the cost of healthcare and insurance premiums is something that takes a huge dent into people’s budget every year. My family and I are experiencing this firsthand this year, with thousands of dollars acquired in medical bills. I am sure, my family and I are not alone on the matter. In fact, more and more, the cost of healthcare rises, and insurance premiums are higher and covering less and less. (We will have an article about medical bills and insurance premiums soon.)

Hobbies, however, can be a way to keep engaged in different aspects of our lives. The key to hobbies is to find the ones that are of interest to you. DO you like to travel? Or to fix things? Maybe those interests may lead you to hobbies that can serve your overall health and your wallet!!

Without further due, here are the 4 hobbies that a person should have:

One to keep you creative.

Keeping your mind sharp is crucial to avoid things like Alzheimer and dementia. In fact, WebMD.com states that some studies have shown that brain exercises decelerate mental decline. Playing board games, crosswords puzzles, memory games, etc. can be beneficial for your mental health. Keeping your mind engaged and alive will prevent quick memory loss and sluggishness. A healthy mind is a sign of a healthy body (and a healthy wallet!!) Click To Tweet

One to keep you in shape.

Another hobby that is beneficial for your health and wallet can be one that keeps you fit. Running, or CrossFit comes to mind. However, the cost of CrossFit gyms these days are exuberant. But things like walking outdoors, biking, and running are for the most part free. Do you have a bike? Get into the habit of going for a ride with your family from time to time. This will keep you fit, and you will spend some quality time with the family. If you live in a hot climate as I do, maybe biking outside is too hot. Maybe something like swimming, or kayaking could be more suitable for your climate. Of course, a kayak or a bike costs money, but a medium-size investment can help your overall health cost in the long run. Don’t believe me???? look at this study from the New York times, that suggests that the cost of exercising is about $2,500.00 per year!!!! $2,500!!!!!!

One to make you money.

Another great hobby to have is one that makes you a bit of money. At the end of the day, who does not like a bit of money on the side??? The number one advice for regular people like you and I from people that have a ton of money (like Buffet and Gates) is to never be dependent on one source of income. A hobby that can make you some cash is a great idea for entertainment and to feed your wallet as well. Click To Tweet The key here, (like most hobbies) is to find what you are passionate about. Do you like to write? Start a blog. Do you like to eat out? Start a restaurant review site, do you like to paint? Sell some paintings in a garage sale. The list can go on and on!! You get the point. The key is to do what you like to do and turn it into a small business/operations. It may not give you money for a while, but that is ok, you are doing what you love. Success will come is you stay consistent. Imagine making some money for a picture you painted, just because you like to paint? That must be a great feeling.

One to give back.

This is the one that is missing in most articles I read on the topic. It is like people forget that giving back is an integral part of our health as well. It makes me a little mad, that we have become super self-centered as a society. But the reality is that giving back is a great way to pass time, to spend time with family and friends, and to bring good to this world. I wrote another article about the benefits of volunteering, not just for individuals and their families (especially for kids), but also for companies as well. In fact, corporations are starting to understand the benefits of having their employees engaged in volunteer and non-profit work. As far as your wallet is concerned, giving back is another aspect of a holistic approach to healthy living that will save you money in the long run. Well, there you have it!! 4 hobbies that will help you be a better person, stay fit, sharp and that will benefit your finances in the long run. Of course, these are just suggestions, and we will love to hear from you if you have one that can go along with the idea of a holistic approach to healthy lives and wallets.
